$850,000 ALLOCATED TO RUB OUT REGIONAL RADIO BLACK SPOTS

25/04Radio black spots will be a thing of the past for 31 regional and remote communities in Australia, with the allocation of more than $850,000 to provide new and improved services under the Federal Government's Commercial Radio Blackspots Program.
Regional communities in Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia have been granted funding to assist commercial radio broadcasters with costs related to equipment, installation, site establishment and licence fees.
This latest announcement brings the number of communities that will enjoy new or improved radio services through the Commercial Radio Blackspots Program to 66.
And it demonstrates the Howard Government's strong commitment to maintaining and improving services to remote and regional Australia.
Projects to provide services to additional communities are under consideration for funding over the remaining life of the program, which runs until the end of 2004-05.
This program complements other Australian Government initiatives for improved services to communities in regional Australia including the $35 million Television Black Spots Program and the $50 million National Communications Fund.
