NEW INCENTIVES FOR TELEVISION PRODUCTION IN AUSTRALIA

11 May 2004

New incentives will be offered for high budget television productions made in Australia under an extension of the refundable film tax offset scheme in the Federal Budget.

The Australian Government has decided to extend the scheme to include television series as an eligible format.

"The film tax offset scheme has been successful in attracting large budget film productions such as The Matrix series, the third episode of Star Wars and Stealth to Australia," Senator Coonan said.

"Extending the offset will strengthen Australia's competitive position as an attractive venue for offshore production," Senator Kemp said.

The extension of the film tax offset shows the Government is committed to building a local film and television production industry that can compete in a demanding global environment and provide employment and professional development opportunities for Australians.
